For Institutional Partners
HBI is seeking multi-year partners to deliver an integrated education, enterprise, governance and sports package to 1,500 vulnerable young people a year in Nairobi, Bungoma and Kakamega, with every shilling traceable to a priced item.
The need
The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics 2022 poverty report found that 44% of young people aged 15 to 24 live in absolute poverty. Bungoma, Nairobi City and Kakamega are among the counties with the poorest people, holding 4.4%, 3.8% and 3.8% of all poor Kenyans. Hardcore poverty among rural youth aged 15 to 24 is 10%, against 3% in urban areas. HBI works in exactly these places.
Our Approach
If HBI gives vulnerable youth integrated entrepreneurship training, education mentorship, civic governance workshops, and sports development, with environmental cleanup or tree planting built in, then high school completion and youth self-employment will rise. The reason is that capacity building combined with sport tackles the root causes of exclusion while building civic and environmental responsibility. The work supports SDGs 1, 4, 8, and 16 and Kenya's Vision 2030.
Why fund HBI?
- Track record. Registered in 2011 as a Public Benefit Organization, with 1,500+ youth reached and scholarships delivered with Gulf African Bank since 2013.
- Local roots. Partnerships with the Nairobi, Bungoma and Kakamega county governments, Angaza Youth Foundation, Local youth club coaches in Kibera and Kawangware, and NACADA.
- Transparent costs. Every program has a published unit cost, so a funder can see what each contribution buys.
- Sound oversight. An eight-member board that includes finance, monitoring and evaluation, education, and statistics expertise.
